Windermere Estate, Munnar
FIRST CLASS, HERITAGE, TEA ESTATE
The Windermere Estate spans 55 acres of rolling terrain on the slopes of the Western Ghats. It offers a warm ambiance, exceptional service, and a connection to the natural environment, all of which contribute to the uniqueness of a stay here.
Accommodations are situated in traditional bungalows featuring gabled roofs, lofty ceilings, wooden beams, and terracotta flooring. The linen furnishings are intricately embroidered by local artisans, while the walls are adorned with crochet and cross-stitch artwork. Each room provides picturesque views of the hills, valley, or garden, with some of the more spacious options including a verandah or balcony.
The garden is abundant with flowering shrubs, as well as coffee, guava, peach, and pepper trees, while the gentle mountain breeze carries the fragrance of wildflowers and herbs. Numerous tranquil spots are available in the garden, with hammocks suspended between the pine trees and vibrant butterflies and birds fluttering overhead.
The estate cultivates its own fruits and vegetables, including bananas, passion fruit, tomatoes, and gooseberries, which are incorporated into the menu, along with honey sourced from their beehives. Guests can savor traditional Keralan cuisine in the serene restaurant and enjoy a cup of hot tea in The Hut—a covered outdoor area with seating and tables crafted from eucalyptus and oak trees. Family recipes have been cherished through generations, and the chefs are eager to impart their culinary knowledge to guests interested in cooking.
