Taj Usha Kiran Palace

Gwalior

OPULENT, HERITAGE

Famous for its dramatic and dominant hilltop fort, which the Mughal emperor Babur reputedly described as the pearl of Indian fortresses, Gwalior makes for an interesting getaway. The Usha Kiran Palace is a 135 year old heritage retreat built by HH Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia as an annex to the Jai Vilas Palace. The ancestral home of the Scindia family is designed in an Indo-Western style, and noted for its carved sandstone filigree screens.

The hotel today consists of 40 exquisite rooms and a handful of villas, dotted throughout the grounds. Facilities include a small swimming pool, a rather snug bar, multi-cuisine restaurant, and Taj’s signature Jiva spa.

Savour closely guarded recipes from the Maratha and Nepal royal kitchens accompanied by classical music from the Gwalior Gharana at Silver Saloon, the multi-cuisine restaurant. Dine under the sky at the palm-shaded The Court’s
