Luxury & Private Pondicherry Tours 2024/2025

Once a French trading post, this charming seafront town is now a centre for antiques. Generally referred to as Pondy by the locals, Pondicherry was renamed Puducherry in 2006. A French colony until 1954, this charming city retains a distinctly French ambiance and cultural inspiration, with its seafront promenade and wide boulevards co-existing alongside auto-rickshaws, bustling bazaars and Hindu temples.

A recommended stroll around the city will take you past traditional Tamil merchant’s houses and along the promenade at the start of the evening, before dining in one of the city’s many restaurants where the French influence is seen in the menus on offer.  Highlights include the shopping, French inspired food, the sea air and the widely available Yoga and meditation, Pondicherry is an excellent place to relax, slow down and enjoy the culture and history around you.

Things to do in Pondicherry

Pondicherry has a rich French cultural heritage, having been the capital of the French colonies in India since the 17th century. The French legacy is visible in the well-planned town, neatly laid roads, wide and vibrant beaches, beautiful promenades, architecturally imposing churches and public buildings and the statues. Split into two parts, Pondicherry is, on one hand a bustling Indian Market town, and on the other hand, towards the sea, the streets are emptier, cleaner and decidedly European.
