Things to do in Mysore
Mysore is fabled to have been come into existence after the goddess Chamundi slayed the vicious demon, Mahishasura. The famed home to Tipu Sultan, Mysore is a city replete with royalty and regalia. Largely governed, and efficiently so, by the Wodeyar dynasty, it also saw rulers in Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan. The rule of these dynasties is visible today in the various architectures and ornate temples around the city.
Mysore Palace
Also known as ‘Amba Vilas Palace’, Mysore Palace is located in the heart of Mysore and is the official residence of the Wodeyars (erstwhile royal family of Mysore). The architecture of the palace is an amalgamation of Muslim, Rajput, Hindu and Gothic styles of architecture.
Srirangapatna
The erstwhile capital of Mysore during the reign of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, Srirangapatna houses a plethora of attractions including a fort, Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace), Jamia Masjid (built by Tipu Sultan), Gumbaz (Mausoleum of Tipu Sultan), Colonel Bailey’s Dungeon & many famous temples.
